I suggest writing out some of these conversation starters on a small strip of paper.  Fill a jar or bowl with the prompts and place it on the Thanksgiving table.  While you eat, pass around the basket and have members of your family or guests take turns pulling a prompt and beginning the conversation with their answer.

Here are some suggested starters:

  • What is the most exciting thing that happened to you this year?

  • What brings you happiness?

  • What was the best part of your day?

  • What is your favorite food to eat on Thanksgiving?

  • What is your best memory over the last year and why?

  • What is your favorite holiday?

  • What is one thing you couldn’t live without for which you are thankful?

  • If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

  • Which vacation are you most thankful for?  Why?

  • What is the nicest thing that someone did for you this year?

  • If you could be any animal, what animal would it be?

  • Describe your perfect day?

  • Which do you enjoy most – salty or sweet foods?  What is your favorite of those?

  • What is your favorite dessert?

  • Which Thanksgiving tradition to you enjoy the most?
